To Neighborhoods in West Houston
... Are the same ones who want to take it away.
Our mission is to leverage what we share in common to make a impact - in West Houston, in Harris County, in Texas, and at the national level.
It is our hope to reach out to all Democrats and Independents in our community, to educate, enlighten, and mobilize for local, state, and federal elections. Why? The Republican-controlled Texas Legislature has taken extraordinary measures to repress voter access, deny health and reproductive care to its constituents, and infringe individual rights. These measures must be rescinded, We can only achieve these goals by getting out the vote in 2024.
Democracy is all about being in the middle: understanding that that just because you stand for something doesn't mean you are against something else.
The experiment conceived by our founding fathers was based on the belief that a country could come to the best solutions by having a thoughtful debate about possible courses of action, based on a common understanding of the facts and consequences of those actions.
We invite a meaningful discourse with all who hold differing beliefs - and are willing to engage in a dialogue based on facts, reason, and a shared commitment to this country.
We are bound not by a common heritage but by our mutual commitment to our democratic form of government, founded on our belief in the dignity and value of every individual.
Some argue that our economy is a zero sum game: one person's gain is equivalent to another's loss, so the net change in wealth or benefit is zero. Because each individual has value, we believe our future is not a zero sum game, but one where expanding human capital creates more opportunity and benefit for all.
Our volunteers tell us that Democrats often do not register when they move to West Houston because they think that all of their neighbors are Republicans. There simply is no point to registering.
In this community, nothing could be further from the truth. Over the last ten years, there has been a decided shift - from a strong Republican majority in 2010 to now what is essentially a 50/50 split of voters for both parties.
Our hope is to build on that momentum by engaging with and educating all Democrats in the area.
